the "expert" parent needs help

I could really use some advice. I have been working with children and parents in a family resource centre for the last 17 years, and have just become a first time parent (Alex is 18 months now). My husband and I have been married for 20 years, and I thought we'd had a lot of the 'decisions' about raising children out of the way. Ha ha ha...

I'm finding that as much as I would like to allow him to become the parent he will be, that any time I try to make even a gentle comment, he dismisses my feedback or gives up and tells me to do it myself then. I don't know how to have a discussion with him about our child without the baggage of my 'expertness' getting in the way.

I'd appreciate any advice...
